Lackluster Arsenal Draw in Final Game of the Season
In a game that ended with the fans Singing “Spend some ******* money!” Arsenal drew 2-2 to Fulham. Arsenal should have, and were given plenty of opportunity to win this game with Fulham down to 10 men for part of the second half, along with some fresh faces back in the squad like Chamakh and Nasri. Van Persie played the game as an attacking midfielder while Ramsey played out on the right side.
Fulham were the first to strike which started off with Ramsey trying to heel flick to Wilshere. Fulham intercepted and brought it down the right, played it back and capitalized. Three minutes later we saw the only glimpse of the real Arsenal in the entire match with Van Persie putting away his 9th goal in 9 away games. We finished the half with 3 shots on target out of 4 shots, but only 48% possession.
The second half started out poorly with Djourou moving across the box into space…WHERE NOBODY WAS leaving Vermaelen with two strikers to deal with. Zamora put away a header to make it 2-1. From then on we really got to see who actually cared about winning the game. A few players just standing around not really give much, although Wilshere looked really really tired and I don’t blame him. Walcott, Arshavin, and Eboue were substituted with Walcott back on the right, Arshavin played more in the middle and Eboue on the left for the injured Gibbs.
It seemed as if the tides would turn when Zoltan Gera put in a two footed tackle on Vermaelen and Gera saw straight red…unfortunately that wasn’t the case and lucky for Arsenal they have a game changer like Theo Walcott. Walcott took off sprinting and got the ball at the 18 where he fired in a low shot. Schwarzer almost deflected it enough but it hit the post and went in. The game ended 2-2 and the season ended for Arsenal in 4th place. Champions league qualifiers are August 16/17 and lets look at the bright side, it will give us a warm up of actual competition for the season. I have no doubts that we’ll qualify for Champions League.

Flops of the Match
Last notes – These last few games have shown how much we REALLY missed Vermaelen but it also showed how much we need to buy a Center Back to play with him. Rumors are that Ajax have accepted 8 mil for Vertonghen from Manchester City. If true that would be a huge loss for Arsenal because honestly, we paid over 2 mil more for effing Koscielny. It’s the same deal as in the winter with Afellay, he cost 3 mil, why wouldn’t we go for that!? Anyways, more tomorrow on where do we go from here I suppose. Hopefully we’ll have something to talk about with Ricky Alvarez!
