Transfers: Velez reluctant to sell Ricky Alvarez to Arsenal

Argentine Midfielder Ricky Alvarez was said to have a pre-contract with Arsenal already by has come out tonightsaying that an Arsenal Representative would be going to Argentina to check out Alvarez but the club would be reluctant to sell.  With a month left in the Clausura, many fans thought the deal was already done but his club Velez Sarsfield has said they will not sell unless they receive an offer to good to refuse.

Many fans were led to believe that it would be a free transfer but according to the club Alvarez still has three years on his contract left.  Velez were in the same situation in 2007 with Mauro Zarate and sold him for 14 mil.  Is alvarez worth 14 mil for Arsenal?  Not sure but who knows if it will be that much or what will happen.  A representative from Arsenal will be down is set to journey to Montevideo to watch Alvarez and Velez take on Penarol on Thursday.  Velez is currently in first place in Argentina this year with Alvarez impressing with his height, speed, and burst into the box.

Alvarez may be a much needed signing this year with Fabregas seeking a move to Barcelona, and Nasri stalling on his contract.  Denilson is for sure leaving as well as Bendtner.  Clichy has also asked to be sold as well and with so many players leaving Alvarez could be a much needed replacement.

In other news, Wenger has talked up how much he likes Karim Benzema and I’m hoping that means contact with Real Madrid will be soon!  He could simply just be stating facts but I’m hoping he puts some money down and buys him.
