What is happening to Arsenal? It may not seem like too much since we’ve gone from 17th to 5th throughout the season, but we’ve lost 6 games this year and 5 of them away! The team we once knew is gone and fans have had to adjust to a new look team with a giant in back, a Fabregas look a like (not play alike) in midfield and a little bit of laziness all around.
Fans are growing more and more frustrated with Arsenal and especially Arsene Wenger as this year progresses. Yes we’ve moved up the table, but we’re so inconsistent it’s just sad. We have no idea which Arsenal will turn up anymore and as I look at responses throughout twitter when they see the line up many expect the worst when they see the names Arshavin and Chamakh, or even Rosicky and Benayoun.
Much of this frustration started in the summer when Arsene had much work to do and then waited until the last 3 or 4 days to really even try and by then all of the players he should have been going for the whole time, were now unavailable.
After the window closes we continued to be linked with players as everyone knew this team wasn’t good enough to win us the title and we still know that this team needs to strengthened, but there is absolutely NO sign of that happening in the near future.
There has been depression among the Arsenal fans who have realized it resigning that Arsenal is no longer a big club anymore. It seems to be getting more and more true with the way this club is being run. They tell us we are better financially, and in the long run we will be better but when we miss out on Champions League we lose a lot of money, and what big players are going to want to come to Arsenal? Hugo Rodallega….awesome.
Things have gotten worse between many of the fans and Arsene Wenger when recently he was asked about whether he was looking to sign Yoann Gourcuff, a playmaker that’s career could really be revitalized at Arsenal. Arsene in a nutshell said…”well if I bring Gourcuff when will Diaby get game-time?” Well he’s gotten what? 13 minutes so far? No sign of him coming back anytime soon and yet still nothing is done.
Those who have stuck by Arsene Wenger take stick, and continue to support him for all he’s done in the past and how he leads the club, but it’s hard to tell their conviction when they speak up for him. I honestly don’t think anyone could do the job Wenger has at this club…except for in the transfer market.
There has begun…okay this ship has sailed, but with how many chances Wenger is will to give to players who really don’t deserve it. Everytime Arshavin scores or makes an assist Wenger seems to go completely bonkers on how Arshavin still has the quality. Chamakh doesn’t really have much competition for the number 2 spot but I’m sure we could find someone in the reserves who could give him a run for his money.
So why haven’t we utilized our young talent like we have in the past? We all know that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ryo Miyaichi are our future attack and most see Benik Afobe as the successor to Robin Van Persie. We received a special talent visa for Ryo, and paid 15 million for the Ox, why aren’t we putting it to good use? What’s the worst that could happen, their back-ups have proved time and time again that they aren’t up for the job.
Many will say it’s because Arsene has more pressure on him to deliver this year, so he’s played a more experienced side…unfortunately that turns us into Chelsea I’m sad to say. I’ve always seen Chelsea as the most boring team in the EPL and they’ve always had a very experienced side who many times got the job done, but did it putting people to sleep more than playing good football. Is that what we’ve become? Arsenal need to blend the young in with the experienced to make the right formula for a devastating attack.
If Ox and Ryo are the future of this club, how is letting them sit on the bench and play in the reserves helping their progress? Both are desparate to play their part in the first team and jump up to that level, where as some of the players aren’t willing to give everything, or take their chance when they do get on the field!
Another tough game looms for Arsenal and with another loss would Arsene look to the market to try and bring in a player that could change things for his struggling side? Well in his opinion there shouldn’t even be a January window so I highly doubt it. It makes me quite nervous for the rest of the season, and sadly for our Champions League tie against A.C. Milan, which in my opinion we should always have a better team than A.C. Milan because I hate Italian Football.
So in conclusion I think we’ve seen more and more people jump on the Wenger out bandwagon and unfortunately Arsene has brought it upon himself so what will happen if Arsenal finish outside the top 4 this year? Would AW leave on his own? Or Quit? Would he bring out the money? Either way he needs to find a way to appease the fans. Although I am not in this bandwagon that does not support our manager, the frustration has crept inside me as well and am worried for the future of this glorious club.
A game of pretty high unimportance for Arsenal tomorrow but of significance to the Greek Champions who will want to be playing on Thursday nights at least now that the Group stages are just about over.
We should see almost all 11 players that started against Wigan getting some rest and I wouldn’t be surprise if you see the same team that gave Money Bags City a real run for their money.
For a few of these players it may be their last chance before they go out on loan, or possibly even sold! If rumors are to be believed we could see the end of Chamakh, Arshavin, and a few others before January 31st.
Both Coquelin and Frimpong will be looking to put in a good performance tomorrow as well with both vying for a spot as Alex Song’s backup. Both players are fully capable of fulfilling that but it looks like Coquelin will be the one taking that spot while Frimpong is sent out.
Frimpong could benefit from moving to one of the lower teams in the EPL as he would really strengthen any midfield he went to.
Another Midfielder who really didn’t get time in the Carling Cup is Oguzhan Ozyakup. The midfielder made a few small appearances in the Carling Cup but really didn’t get a fair run out with both Coquelin and Frimpong ahead of him. We should see him going out on loan to a Championship side, or possibly a team in France of Holland might be on the cards.
The talented midfielder recently signed a new contract and will be hoping to have a future with the club, and for that to happen he will need to go out on loan, gain experience and be quite successful. Coming back next year he will have even more to compete with Lansbury returning, along with Coquelin and Frimpong with an added year of experience.
My hope is that we’ll even see him get some time against Olympiacos tomorrow but I don’t think we will.
With all that in mind, the transfer window is fast approaching and while Wenger doesn’t seem to want to buy players with his large squad, the board, and Ivan Gazidis may want to splash a little bit of money to get us back into the top 4.
Wenger was very quick to quash the rumors of Mexican Midfielder Marco Fabian saying it was an agent starting a rumor, while the press is saying it’s from a family member. It could be possible it’s one in the same, maybe Wenger is hiding something. Most likely it’s absolutely nothing!
Interesting rumors going around that Arsenal is in preliminary negotiations with AC Milan for Alexandre Pato. In return AC Milan would receive a large sum of money and the person we’ve paid the most amount of money for ever! To me he’s a fantastic player with great ability, great pace, and could really bring something to this Arsenal team…but, I think he’s overpriced.
Now if this happened I would not complain for a second, but with Lukas Podolski wanting out of Cologne, and a smaller price tag he may be a better option. The 26 year old comes vastly experienced with the German National Team and is a real goal scorer.
As exciting as all the rumors will make you, my gut tells me we will go through January and see absolutely 0 incoming players unless we have injury problems. There is also still the possibility of Henry rejoining the club.
Of course it’s too early to really make assumptions or guess what Arsene Wenger has up his sleeve and with recent reports linking Arsenal with Lukas Podolski, and Mario Gotze we have to anxiously and impatiently wait and jump to conclusions like we always do because we can’t help ourselves only to be disappointed because we didn’t sign Eden Hazard or Messi….
Reports from the Mexican Press though is that Arsenal have already made a signing…it’s not often that we hear of this from the Mexican press, but the information that is reported was leaked by a family member of Chivas Guadalajara midfielder Marco Fabian. The Goal.com Report is here. Now I look at this with a lot of excitement, only because I get excited by possible players that could join Arsenal. I mean who wouldn’t get excited over having Lukas Podolski as our backup striker instead of Marouane Chamakh?
If the reported arrival of Marco Fabian were to be true, it could see the end of the line for a few players such as injury plagued Abou Diaby, One game a month Tomas Rosicky, and could even see the end of the Mario Gotze rumors. In fact this rumor may even make sense as Arsenal do like to take the cheaper option. Now while Fabian is cheaper it by no means reflects the talent he possesses.
The attacking midfielder from Chivas is known for his wonder goals against Barcelona in the summer and is regarded as the best play maker Mexico has.
There are a few things though that lead me to believe this is all hype though. First of all, on November 10th Chivas president said they had no contact with anyone about the sale of Fabian and they had no intention of letting him go. Fabian is a big part of their future and that he has a 5 year contract. Quotes are here
Now that was almost a month ago and anything could have happened in between then and now, and money can certainly talk when it comes to a club like Chivas, but many are finding it peculiar that this was leaked, but when Javier Hernandez made his move it was kept in secrecy.
Either way, it’s almost transfer season again and I’m here to keep you up to date, get you hyped up so that when you are disappointed that it didn’t actually happen, you’ll come right back because I’ll have another name for you to get excited about!!! Just Kidding, here’s a video of Marco Fabian…future Arsenal player? Who knows.
It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard the name Abou Diaby in the Arsenal lineup with many fans already casting him out and hoping he is transferred. Could he yet be the tonic Arsenal need though? The powerful midfielder is only a couple of weeks away from being match fit and could make a big impact on this team that lacks confidence.
The tall lanky midfielder has played in a variety of positions for Arsenal including the wings, attacking midfield, and defensive midfielder. Many fans became very tired and weary of Diaby’s performances when he moved back into the defensive midfield position and its unknown whether these delusional fans really knew that isn’t his natural position!
Diaby’s fantastic dribbling, powerful runs, well timed runs and speed can only make a contribution when he’s playing in a relatively attacking position. To have Diaby playing behind Robin Van Persie on the line could really be the attacking presence we need in this side that is not scoring the goals they should be!
Now many of you will write this off because many of you want to see the back of Diaby which is expected and I’ve also had my moments where I did not want to see him in the team, he is very injury prone but a good run in the team could see the midfielder really get back into his groove and could see the return of Arsenal to the top!
Who knows whether his return to fitness will see him stay healthy but it’s worth giving him a shot to get his form up so he can be an attacking threat for this Arsenal team lacking in fluidity.
Now it’s the third game of Champions League, and losing doesn’t mean we’re out, but this is an extremely important game for Arsenal. After a big game at the weekend and the fighting for confidence in the Arsenal camp it will be a very hard, but important win for the Gunners. Marseilles brings an extremely tough test though, having already disposed of Borussia Dortmund with ease while Arsenal could only draw.
Marseilles have had a tough time in Ligue 1 with only 1 win in 10 games so far, but have had success so far in Europe. This could be the perfect test for Arsenal playing a strong team with up and down form while Arsenal seem to be the same way. Arsenal will have to deal with some difficult attacking threats such as Valbuena, Ayew, and Loic Remy to say the least and it will be a big test for the Arsenal back four.
A win versus Sunderland on Sunday hopefully marked the turn of a corner for Arsenal and the confidence boost that is gained from a win against Marseilles would be massive! Although the boys have had limited rest having played on Sunday they will be raring to go for this one and we may even see a few players rotated.
Our starting 11 will probably stay much the same with Santos filling in for Gibbs, and Jenkinson getting the start based on the fact that Arsene won’t risk his only backup center back to put Koscielny out at right back. This could expose Arsenal with both Marseilles wingers being very fast and very good.
I’d like to see RvP put back in the attacking midfield spot and I think he would be more influential in the game if he moved further into the midfield. I also think it’s time to move Theo Walcott into the center as he’s become quite invisible over on the wings. Theo has a problem of not being able to run at defenders, he has a strength of running past them and timing his runs well. So why not let him play in the middle where Van Persie and Arteta and supply him the through balls he needs to be effective!
So here is my ideal line up for Arsenal tomorrow night!
Kos Mertesacker Djourou Santos
Gervinho Walcott Arshavin
I’m a wishful thinker I know! I do think we will see Arshavin get the start, and will see Chamakh tomorrow at some point. I also think Ramsey will be in the squad being rested on Saturday and Rosicky will go back to the bench having a very good game on Saturday. Honestly with the squad Arsenal has named, any of the players named could be started especially ahead of a big game against Stoke which Arsenal often struggle against.
So pray hard tonight for a good tomorrow!
Well I haven’t written in a while and the game yesterday may have just sparked my return with a fantastic win if I do say so myself. I also saw many of the downers on Twitter complaining back and forth on our defense and this and that. Reality is, we conceded 1 goal and it was on a free kick, by one of the best free kickers in the league…
We saw some shaky times from the defense but we can’t expect them to always be completely solid and we all know this! Mertesacker is still adjusting and there are many negative vibes towards him from Arsenal fans, which are quite premature. Koscielny was also getting much negativity even though he’s just returning from injury and lets be honest…would you rather have Djourou or Squillaci back there? No so shut it!
Both finishes by the captain were quite fantastic and honestly he could have had more. His attempt that hit the bar was phenomenal despite it not going in and he proved why he’s one of the best strikers in the world yesterday. Despite that, I would like to see him played in the position right behind the striker and move Theo to the middle. Theo has dissappeared in games more and more this season and moving him up front would really free him to use his strength…speed. He can’t dribble at players, he runs past them. He moves up front and all of a sudden Arteta and Van Persie have a player who will have good movement and great speed to pass to. Not to mention I’d like to see Chamberlain getting more time.
Gervinho had a great first half but was invisible in the second half, but honestly almost every player had a decent performance and it was probably one of the most exciting performances I’ve seen in quite some time from Arsenal.
Szczsney – 7 – Made a fantastic reflex save on the line, made a terrible decision to come out of the goal on a long ball that almost cost a goal.
Jenkinson – 6.5 – You could tell he was nervous, too predictable on the ball and needs to adjust to the speed more, but on the bright side made some great runs forward and looks very comfortable in the attack.
Mertesacker – 7 – Didn’t really do anything noticeably wrong, being unfairly criticized in my opinion at the moment
Koscielny – 6 – Did some good, did some bad especially trying to stay up with the line and catch players with offside traps. Was solid as always with his tackles.
Gibbs – 7 – Did well on the left and quite unfortunate to get hurt.
Song – 7 – Was a rock wall as the defensive midfielder and won many many tackles. Unfortunately Songinho didn’t come out today and ruined quite a few chances in the attack with his optimistic long balls from 20 yards out.
Rosicky – 8 – Great game from the Czech with some good runs, and really controlled the midfield. Rosicky seemed to control much of the tempo of the game and you could tell after the game was tied, he put some urgency into our attack. I was very impressed with him
Arteta – 6.5 – Was solid but nothing phenom
Walcott – 4 – Wait Walcott played?
Gervinho – 7 – Good assist, made some good runs in the first half and almost had a goal of his own, second half he disappeared and was replaced by Andrey Arshavin.
RvP – 9 – Not much to say really, world class player put in a world class performance. Haven’t seen a free kick like that from him in quite some time.
AA23 – 7.5 – Looks like our little Russian may be getting back into some form and he knows he was playing bad, but the display I saw was of confidence and it’s been a while since I’ve seen him show any. Would love to see him get a chance to start with RvP and Gervinho, could be quite a rampaging front line!
Yossi – 5 – I…do…not…like…Yossi, So I’m biased. Not sure why we give him a chance and not players like Park, Ryo, Ox, Frimpong, Coquelin who will have a long term future with us. Yossi almost gave a way a goal as well.
Santos – 7 – Seemed solid, had a poor free kick but did well in defense and looks like he’s finally finding his feet in the EPL.
So I’m pumped for the game against Marseilles, but after seeing what they did to Dortmund a little nervous!
Back again to the blogging after taking a few days off to see how this whole transfer debacle went and to tell you the truth, I’m pumped! It wasn’t the perfect week we were hoping for but it looks like we’ve added some valuable players to the squad and we’ll gain a lot of confidence from the players that have come in! In the beginning of the summer we signed 3 players all under 24 and at the end of the transfer window we signed 5 players all over the age of 24! It’s been quite a hectic day to say the least.
About midday it was thought that we only had two targets left Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun. It appeared we weren’t going to get Arteta because of differences in his wages so we only had one left, being Benayoun. Fans who had slated Arteta for being to old or injury prone or a fake Cesc or whatever you want to call him were now looking back and thinking “what have we done, we’re only getting Benayoun?” Well we got them both!
Arteta I feel will go right into the team and I see him really making a difference! Especially playing next to Wilshere. Arteta is a deep lying midfielder who will let Wilshere roam more frequently. The Spaniard is also a great set piece taker which will really give us a boost! The only question is how he’ll cope with injuries. The last few years he’s been plagued by them but if he can keep out of the injury room then he’ll do wonders for us, and won’t need to get used to the Premier League.
Yossi on the other hand will most likely be a squad player and his experience and creativity will definitely bring something to this young Arsenal team. He has a lot of experience playing for both Chelsea and Liverpool so he’s no stranger to Champions League. He’s now an Arsenal player though so we owe him our full support!
Andre Santos is our left back replacement who came in yesterday as Armand Traore left for QPR and I have to say, “phewwww what a relief!” I’m very happy that we’ve signed a left back and honestly Andre Santos is a fantastic signing! For those of you who have thought this isn’t a great signing, we could be going into the season with an injury prone Gibbs and a below average Traore, or we could deal with the fact that the starting Left Back for Brazil plays for Arsenal now!
Per Mertesacker is probably my favorite signing of the window because I’ve been practically begging Arsene to buy him the entire window! The Giant German will have a big impact on Arsenal this year with his experience and height. I’ve heard way too many people say he’ll be too slow for the Premier League but do you honestly think he’s never faced opposition who play quickly like they do in the EPL? He will not have too much trouble adjusting along with really bringing some order and discipline to this defense! His height will definitely help on our set pieces as well. I do think he’ll be a starter so watch out for Vermesacker!
One thing that’s really been improved in my opinion is our depth and it will be interesting to see what happens in our midfield this year with the addition of Arteta and Benayoun. Our defensive midfield has Song, Frimpong, and Coquelin in it still which is why we didn’t improve this spot this summer. Coquelin was in my opinion our best player on Sunday against Manchester United and I think he’s very ready for the first team and could be valuable if Song ends up at the African Cup in January!
The season starts here for Arsenal and these last 4 buys from Arsenal are a real statement of intent because they are four players who know how to win, and they know what it takes to win! They can really push this team and they can bring these younger players up to play at their full potential so I’m very excited about how this season is looking from here on out!
